South Africa’s rising star, Tyla, had a night to remember at the 2024 BET Awards, securing the coveted “Best International Act” award.
The talented singer faced stiff competition from a diverse group of nominees, including Asake (Nigeria), Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Aya Nakamura (France), Bk’ (South Africa), Cleo Sol (UK), Focalistic (South Africa), Raye (UK), and Tiakola (Côte d’Ivoire).
A Triumph for South African Music
Notably, Tyla’s win marks a significant moment for South African music on the international stage. Her self-titled album, “TYLA,” has received commercial success. The album’s lead single, “Water,” has gone viral on social media with a popular dance attached to it and several dance challenge videos.

Furthermore, Tyla hit the stage with an electrifying performance of her hit song “Jump” featuring Gunna and Skillibeing at the 2024 BET Awards.
Also, Tyla received a nomination in the Best New Artiste category with contenders like Ayra Starr, Fridayy, Sexyy Red, 41, 4Batz, Bossman Dlow, and October London. Ultimately, Tyla came out victorious and won the award.
A Breakout Year for Tyla
Finally, Tyla’s self-titled debut album, released in March 2024, garnered critical acclaim and debuted at number 24 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Earlier in the evening, she received an additional nod, presenting an award before winning “Best International Act.”
