The Commissioner of Police in Plateau State Mr. Olugbemiga Emmanuel Adesina disclosed that 118 cultists planning to mark their 7/7 day celebration in Jos on Sunday were arrested.

Adesina said that Sunday was the day the cultists planned to carry out their nefarious activities in the capital city.

The police boss during a press briefing, said that immediately after the information was leaked to the command, they quickly embarked on combing every nook and cranny of the state.

“The arrested cultists wanted to hold their engagements yesterday (7/7/2024) but the police were very proactive with other security agencies raking their hideouts. Yesterday alone, a total number of 118 suspects were apprehended,” Adesina said.

“From yesterday till today, the command did not allow them to operate anywhere. That is why there is no story of the cultists operating anywhere in Plateau State. We cannot bring the arrested 118 cultist suspects here today for parade for members of the press because they were picked up from different locations.”

He appreciated the inspector–General of Police and the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the people of Plateau for their cooperation and support to the command.

Adesina appealed to the public to provide the police with useful information to enable security agencies to give the people of the state security protection.

At the briefing, the police paraded 60 suspects for child trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms, and exhibits.

The arrests included suspects of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, grievous hurt, kidnapping, neutralisation of kidnap attempt.

The police also arrested and recovered 79 rounds of live ammunition.
