Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have again neutralised a terrorist camp in Taraba State.

The breakthrough, which was achieved on Sunday, was said to have taken place at Ikiyayo Forest in Wukari Local Government Council of the state.

The Army, while announcing on Monday via its official communication on X, said its personnel, acting on credible intelligence, had stormed and destroyed a terrorist hideout in the LGA.

During the combing of the forest, the troops, the statement said, encountered the terrorists, and engaged them in a heavy gunfight which led to the neutralisation of one terrorist.

It added that rifles, magazines and ammunition were among items recovered from the terrorists.

The statement read: “Acting on credible intelligence reports regarding the presence of terrorist elements, the operation was executed in the early hours of today, 7 July 2024 when the brave troops of 93 Battalion Sub-Sector 3B OPWS swiftly moved into action, targeting the hideouts and camps used by the terrorists.

“Recovered items include one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, multiple camps used for planning and executing attacks were completely destroyed.”

The Nigerian Army, as stated by the X-handle, remains resolute and decisive in its mission to ensure peace and security of lives and properties of citizens.

Adding that “We therefore urge the public to continue supporting our efforts by providing timely and accurate information on suspicious activities of terrorists and criminal elements.”
