Edo State-born Gospel Eghosa Osaro is on the verge of breaking the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance covered on a treadmill in 48 hours.

Unveiling his campaign for the record in Benin, yesterday, Osaro said he was ready to embark on a historic journey that would put Edo State on the global map.

“I am attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance covered on a treadmill in 48 hours. My attempt to break the record by a male is not just a personal feat; it is a testament to the resilience and determination of the Edo people.

“This record attempt will showcase Edo State’s potential for sports tourism and investment; inspire the youth to embrace endurance sports and healthy lifestyles; create a social and public awareness of the vital importance of fitness and health; promote sports, young athletes, home grown talents and youth development in Edo State in particular and Nigeria at large.

“It will also put Edo State on the global stage, promoting cultural exchange andunderstanding.” Osaro charged Edo youths to strive to make meaningful use of their time, saying that with determination they can achieve anything they set out to do.

He said: “I urge you to embrace this spirit of discipline, determination and resilience and apply it to your own lives, pursuing your passions and never giving up.

“Let us make history together and show the world what Edo State and Nigeria are capable of.”Also speaking at the event, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said that the state government is interested in Osaro’s campaign.

“It is part of the things we want to do to make sure that our people get the support of government for whatever endeavour they want to attempt. We are pleased that this young man decided to do this at this time.” Osaro’s attempt at breaking the world record will run from July 15 to 17 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
