The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has requested for applications from suitably qualified candidates for the vacant position of the Coach of Beach Soccer National Team, known as Supersand Eagles.

The public notice was sent out by NFF’s head of Communications Department, Ademola Olajire.

The notice specified for candidates to have attended at least one beach soccer refresher course organized by the NFF, be conversant with the ever-changing rules and dynamics of the game and possess at least CAF C Coaching License.

Also, the candidate must have been involved in beach soccer activities in the last three years to be considered, while playing experience locally and internationally could prove to be an added advantage.

Applications will close at midnight of Friday, 12th July 2024, with a successful candidate to be named in a matter of days, as the Supersand Eagles prepare for a two-leg 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Mauritania.

The 2024 tournament will take place in Egypt in a yet to be fixed date.

The Supersand Eagles are two-time Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations after emerging winners in 2007 and 2009.

The last time the Supersand Eagles reached the final of the beach AFCON was in 2018 where they lost 6-1 to Senegal.

Senegal have been the dominant team in the beach AFCON, having won the last four tournaments.

They are the most successful team in the history of the competition with seven titles, while the Supersand Eagles are second with two titles.

Cameroon and Madagascar are the other two teams who have won the tournament before with one title each.

The beach AFCON also acts as the qualification route for African nations to the upcoming edition of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Coinciding with the annual staging of the World Cup, the competition took place yearly until 2009; the World Cup then became biennial, and as its supplementary qualification event, the championship followed suit.
