Gabriel Osho has left relegated Luton Town for French Ligue 1 newly promoted club AJ Auxerre on a one-year contract.

Auxerre confirmed Osho’s signing in a statement released on their website on Thursday.

“Premier League defender joins AJA! The club are pleased to announce the signing of defender Gabriel Osho from Luton on a one-year deal with an option of two. He will wear the number 3 shirt,” the statement read.

“Born and trained in Reading, Gabriel (25) has spent his entire career in England, proving himself to be one of the most solid central defenders in the Championship.

“A scorer in the play-off semi-final, he contributed to the historic rise of the small London club to the elite in 2022-2023. Last season, he played 21 Premier League games (2 goals) and rubbed shoulders with the best strikers in the world.“

Born in Reading, England, Osho got his first call-up to the Super Eagles in March 2024 but had to withdraw due to injury.

Founded in 1905, Auxerre made its debut in the first division of French football in the 1980–81 season and remained in the topflight until the 2011–12 season.

The club has won the Ligue 1title once, in the 1995–96 season with former Super Eagles defender Taribo West regular in the title-winning campaign.

Auxerre achieved its first major honour by winning the French Cup in 1994 and have since added three more Cup titles, which ties them for the fifth-best standing among teams who have won the trophy.

The club have produced several notable players such as Eric Cantona, Laurent Blanc, Stéphane Guivarc’h, Philippe Mexès, Basile Boli, and Djibril Cissé, among others, who all became French internationals, with Blanc playing on the teams that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000.
