The British Council, in collaboration with Cambridge International Examinations, has recognised the outstanding achievements of six pupils from three secondary schools in Nigeria. 
 
The pupils bagged the ‘Top in the World Outstanding Cambridge Learners Awards’ for their exceptional performance in the June and November 2023 Cambridge examination series. They received the prestigious ‘British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards (BROCLA)’.
 
The ceremony also recognised British Council partner schools that demonstrated excellent implementation of the Child Protection Policy and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, highlighting the British Council’s commitment to fostering safe and inclusive educational environments.

During the celebration of the achievers, Country Director of Nigeria British Council, Mrs Lucy Pearson, said the awards went to learners who achieved the highest marks globally in English as a second language (speaking endorsement).
   
David Oluwademilade and Sharon Omaghomi from Brookstone School emerged winners in the June 2023 series, while four pupils from James Hope College, Lagos, and The Ambassadors Group of Schools received the award in the November 2023 series.
 
Additionally, 95 pupils from 37 British Council partner schools achieved the highest marks in various subjects, while 71 received the ‘Top in Nigeria’ awards for achieving the highest standard mark in the country for individual subjects. 
 
Forty-eight received High Achievement Awards while eight received Best Across Awards for their outstanding performance.
 
Pearson congratulated the awardees and acknowledged the dedication and commitment of their teachers and parents. 
 
She emphasised that the globally recognised qualifications would help students secure admission to top universities and find amazing career opportunities.
   
The Regional Director, Sub-Saharan Africa International Education, Cambridge University, Juan Visser, also congratulated the learners for their academic achievements and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.
 
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Oluwademilade expressed their excitement and gratitude for the recognition, emphasising that hard work and dedication were essential for success.
