Chairman of Labour Party’s National Transition Committee of Mobilization, Dr. Kingsley Okundaye, has warned against attacks on the party’s governorship candidate in Edo State, Olumide Akpata.

He said the candidate’s soaring popularity in the state ahead of the September governorship election cannot be intimidated by the attacks.

Okundaye recalled that Akpata had been attacked twice in the state precisely at UNIBEN and Owan West Local Government Council Area during his campaign.

He said the recent Attack in Owan West Local Government Council Area of Edo State was an act of cowardice by the perpetrators.

The Labour Party scribe in a statement said the recent attack was not only barbaric but undemocratic.

Okundaye, who called on all political stakeholders and all lovers of democracy, condemned the action and called for support for the Party and its candidate in the governorship election.

He said those who orchestrated the attack does not mean well for democracy and expressed disappointment that people could still resort to a backward way of preventing Akpata from carrying out his constitutional responsibility.

Okundaye however called on the security agencies to fish out those responsible for the dastardly act for prosecution and urged the state government to give all the parties a level playing field during the campaigns.

He appealed to party members to be civil in their campaigns and shun calumny.
