•IPOB leader’s release will be healing balm to S’East, say LP lawmakers

Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the Kanu is a victim of false imprisonment by the Nigerian Government.

Ejimakor said that it’s unacceptable for the Nigerian Government to imprison Kanu over his ideas and thoughts. Posting on his X handle, Ejimakor wrote: “In human relations, don’t seek unnecessary attention & validation. Just do what you believe to be right. If you get a toxic reaction in return, be mature enough not to take it personally. Be less reactive & hold onto your integrity & dignity. Above all, pat yourself on the back.

“Nnamdi Kanu is a victim of false imprisonment by the Nigerian State. Period. It’s unacceptable to imprison a man not for any real offense but for his thoughts and ideas that the state is seeking to suppress by means of false imprisonment.

“The best way of fighting for such a man is to never stop fighting for him. Let him know every day that he is remembered.”
Kanu has been detained since June 2021, when he was rearrested and repatriated from Kenya to Nigeria.
The Nigerian Government had refused to release the IPOB leader despite courts granting him bail.

MEANWHILE, lawmakers working under the aegis of South East House of Assembly Caucus of Labour Party (LP) have assured that the release of the IPOB leader would act as a healing balm to the region and also encourage the feeling of oneness as a nation.

The legislators in a communique signed by 10 members in the National Assembly, yesterday, contended that it will also separate genuine agitators from criminals in the business of kidnapping.

The communique, endorsed by the caucus leader, Jude Ifeanyi Umennajiego, and other members, including, Kingsley Udemezue, Nkechi Ogbuefi, Justice Azuka, among others, argued that their backing the call for the release of Kanu is in line with the position of several Nigerian leaders, including Edwin Clark, Peter Obi and several others, adding that they see it as a demonstration of leadership and show of concern for the people.

He said: “We express happiness and gratitude to the South East governors, senators and House of Representatives members on their recent resolve to interface with the Federal Government for the release of Kanu from detention.

“We, therefore, lend our voices in appealing to President Bola Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, release Kanu to douse the current ravaging insecurity in.

“This insecurity has grounded the economy of the region and has caused unprecedented loss of human lives, as well as destruction of property.”
