Ian Brant has been appointed the new chair of the CIC
Ian is succeeding Dr Wei Yang OBE as the Construction Industry Council chair for the next two years.
The appointment is effective immediately, with Wei now taking on the role of deputy chair.
Ian specialises in commercial and contractual support
Ian is a director at Brant Associates, handling not only commercial and contractual support but also dispute resolution and expert witness services.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) and is regularly recruited for his expertise in legal proceedings and in projects requiring a quantity surveyor, as well as having served previously as trustee and chair of the Investigations Panel at the CIOB.
Ian Brant said: “It’s a tremendous honour to be elected Chair of the Construction Industry Council for the 2025–2027 term. As a Fellow of the CIOB, my career has been grounded in collaboration, professionalism and integrity across the built environment. The CIC brings together the collective voice of our diverse members at a time when our industry faces both great challenges and opportunity. I’m committed to driving progress through shared values, innovation and inclusion. I’m also passionate about improving mental health across the built environment sector — an issue that underpins the wellbeing, productivity and resilience of our workforce.
“I would like to thank Dr Wei Yang for her exceptional leadership and invite all CIC stakeholders to actively engage as we work together to shape a more sustainable and inspiring built environment for the generations to come.”
Former CIC chair, Dr Wei Yang, said: “As my two-year tenure as Chair of the Construction Industry Council comes to a close today, I feel deeply honoured to have led the CIC during such a pivotal period for the UK built environment. These past two years have been defined by collaboration, reform, and strategic action — all aimed at helping our industry respond to pressing societal and environmental challenges.
“I want to extend my deepest thanks to CEO Graham Watts, incoming chair Ian Brant, the CIC board, CIC staff, member organisations, and our wider network for their unwavering support and shared vision throughout my tenure. I also wish Ian every success as chair of CIC over the coming two years. I am confident that his vision, dedication, and leadership will continue to champion the CIC’s spirit of collaboration.”
A new Construction Industry Council chair for a changing industry
Recent years have seen monumental changes to the construction industry, not least due to the Labour government’s 1.5m new home target, a huge (and considered by many to be unachievable) target.
In April, the CIC launched a call for evidence regarding this target.
They are examining several key questions, including:
- Economic viability: How do we balance economic viability with high quality – what are the current barriers to that?
- Sustainable building practices: How can we ensure that new homes are environmentally friendly and energy-efficient?
- Affordable housing solutions: What strategies can be implemented to make housing more affordable for all income levels?
- Innovative construction techniques: How can modern construction methods and technologies accelerate the building process while maintaining quality?
- Policy and regulatory frameworks: What changes in policy and regulation are necessary to support the rapid construction of quality homes?
- Community and infrastructure development: How can we ensure that new housing developments are well-integrated with local communities and infrastructure?
- Flood risk management: How can we avoid building in areas of higher flood risk to minimise potential damage and ensure safety?
