The National Grid supply framework has appointed Balfour Beatty twice

The High Voltage Direct Current supply chain framework has awarded the firm two places among 19 other suppliers

The National Grid supply framework will last for five years, with the potential to extend for another three years.

Balfour Beatty is the only company to receive two appointments on the framework.

The National Grid supply framework will cover several major projects

Holding two lots, Balfour Beatty will deliver civil engineering for future converter stations and onshore underground cabling works associated with said converter stations.

The framework as a whole will cover several partnerships for energy projects across both England and Wales.

Stephen Tarr, divisional CEO and group sector lead – UK energy at Balfour Beatty, said: “Our unique end-to-end capabilities and our extensive civil engineering knowledge makes us ideally positioned to secure the power supply to millions of homes and businesses across England and Wales.

“We look forward to working closely and collaboratively with National Grid and our partners on the High Voltage Direct Current supply chain framework, as we build on our long-standing relationship and our history of successful delivery.”

Zac Richardson, chief engineer and offshore delivery director of strategic infrastructure at National Grid, said: “This marks a major step forward in delivering the UK’s future energy network. This investment not only underpins the transition to a more secure, independent and low-carbon energy future, but will also support tens of thousands of UK jobs, boost regional supply chains and strengthen our construction and engineering sectors. By building strategic, long-term partnerships with leading UK-based contractors, we’re ensuring the UK is ready to meet the growing demand for electricity with a resilient and modern network.”

National Grid is supporting many projects

At the start of this month, National Grid announced the appointment of several companies, including Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, to the Electricity Transmission Partnership.

This partnership will help to deliver £8bn worth of substation infrastructure through the creation of regional partnerships.

Partners on the framework are being given regional exclusivity of their substation work based on their performance and commitment to capacity expansion.

On the announcement, energy minister, Michael Shanks, said: “The clean energy transition is the economic opportunity of the 21st century, with the potential to revitalise our industrial heartlands with skilled jobs and economic growth.

“This £8 billion partnership from National Grid is proof of that – providing a boost for Britain’s supply chains, investing in the future of our highly skilled workforce and helping to deliver clean, homegrown power that we control.”
