Sir Robert McAlpine has been working on the pre-services agreement for spa resort Therme Manchester and has now been appointed construction manager for the TraffordCity project in Manchester
Described as the UK’s first urban wellbeing resort, Therme Manchester is the project of Therme Horizon, a €1bn strategic joint venture between Therme Group and CVC.
Therme Manchester will combine the largest thermal pool complex in Europe under one roof on the site of the former EventCity exhibition hall next to the Trafford Centre. The spa project will include 10 indoor and outdoor pools, botanical gardens, and immersive art. There will also be over 25 water slides, the largest sauna area in the UK, multiple steam rooms and a wave pool for children and families.
First approved in 2020 by Trafford Council, the Manchester spa project has faced a number of delayed opening times, with the latest revision giving a completion date of ‘late 2028‘.
