Trimble, a leading provider of construction management technology solutions, has launched the latest updates for Viewpoint Field View
The new 3D Model Viewer facilitates enhanced model-based workflows, enabling teams to more effectively capture information and benefit from enhanced visual collaboration. The new capabilities allow forms, checklists, and tasks to be raised against the 3D model.
The new 3D Model Viewer feature is fully embedded into Viewpoint Field View, providing users with a true model-based workflow, both in the office and out in the field. Using the mobile based application, teams can easily open and view the 3D model out on site, empowering field workers with immediate visual context and insight, helping to reduce misinterpretation and rework.
Tasks and forms (for the purposes of snagging, health and safety actions, quality checks, inspections and handover) can be embedded, pinned and assigned to the relevant location within the model. As well as enhancing documentation accuracy, this can provide a clear visual context for reporting.

Making working with 3D Models easier
With the emphasis on ensuring connected workflows, any task or form pinned to a 3D model will automatically be reflected on the linked 2D plan. Creating a single source of truth across project views. This ensures cohesive tracking and management, as well as allowing users the freedom to work in either 2D or 3D, depending on individual preferences.
In addition to streamlining data capture, ensuring project-critical quality control, snagging and reporting data is embedded and linked with the information-rich 3D model, the new Field View updates also provide improved efficiency levels and productivity gains – both out on-site and in the office.
A great example of this is the auto calibration of BIM files and geometry set-up, particularly relevant during the initial project setup stage. While previous workflows could have taken teams days or even weeks to complete, depending on the size and scale of the project, now it can take just minutes or hours. The software’s intelligent capabilities mean Field View can semi-automate the identification of spaces from within an IFC file, creating a 2D plan from a 3D model while suggesting appropriate labels – such as Room One or Corridor Ten.
Through the automation of this time consuming and manual task of space identification, project leaders can instead focus time on calibration and correct labeling of spaces. This can provide significant time savings and accelerate project progression by transforming a lengthy set up task into a swift operation, minimising manual work and the potential for error.

“The emphasis is on providing complete site and project management”
Speaking about the new features, Mark Slack, Product Manager EMEA at Trimble said: “This is the latest in a series of exciting updates and enhanced functionalities we have made to Field View, all with the aim of providing streamlined processes, easier access to 3D model-based workflows, and improved documentation and reporting accuracy.
“With Field View, the emphasis is on providing complete site and project management for all contractors with 2D, 3D and reality-based workflows, helping to facilitate the ‘Golden Thread’ and master compliance with new regulatory frameworks, such as the Building Safety Act.”
The latest update also includes a new Organisation Import Tool, helping teams to efficiently set up organisations on new and existing projects, with quick bulk uploads, duplicate control and readily available enterprise library support.
A cloud-based and off-line mobile solution, Viewpoint Field View is designed to replace pen and paper in the field for snagging, forms and permits, project delivery and handover.
