Chris Sleight, managing director of Off-Highway Research, has joined the board of the Construction Equipment Association (CEA)

Recognised as a leading authority on global construction equipment markets, Sleight has over 25 years’ experience in market intelligence, forecasting and industry analysis.

He holds an honours degree in civil engineering and began his career with KHL Group in 1997, where he edited the industry magazines International Construction and Construction Europe.

Following KHL’s acquisition of Off-Highway Research in 2015, Sleight moved into the consultancy and data business, becoming managing director in 2018.

Under his leadership, Off-Highway Research has become a trusted source of independent data and insight for the global construction equipment industry, supporting OEMs, dealers, rental companies and industry associations.

Sleight has worked closely with the CEA over the years, contributing to discussions on global equipment trends and providing data to inform policy and advocacy work.

He said: “I’m pleased to be joining the CEA board and look forward to working with the association and its members. Off-Highway Research has collaborated with the CEA for many years, and I hope to bring useful insights from global markets to support the association’s work on data, forecasting and industry intelligence.”

CEA chief executive Viki Bell commented: “Chris has been a longstanding supporter of the CEA, first in his role as a journalist and through his work with Off-Highway Research. He brings valuable knowledge of global construction equipment markets and years of experience in market intelligence and forecasting. His appointment will enable the CEA to provide members with clear, reliable information to support their businesses, and we are delighted to welcome him to the board.”

According to the CEA’s latest Market Insights blog, sales of construction and earthmoving equipment showed a strong recovery in September, with growth of 13.6% compared with the same month last year.

This took sales for the third quarter of 2025 to just under 6%, below the growth of close to 9% for the first two quarters.

As a result, sales in the first nine months of the year have reached just under 23,000 units and are 8% above last year’s level during the same period.
