The Planning Inspectorate has announced that the new online appeals service is now available to all local planning authorities (LPAs) in England
Per the digital transformation programme first announced in the summer, the Planning Inspectorate has debuted a new online appeals service.
All LPAs in England can now use the new online service to manage Householder (HAS), Planning (S78) and Listed Building (S20) appeals.
Additional appeal types are coming soon
The Planning Inspectorate has also announced future additions to the online appeal service, including Commercial Planning, Commercial Adverts, and Advertisements on 17 December 2025 and Enforcement, Enforcement Listed Building and Lawful Development Certificates due in February 2026.
The new service provides several key improvements for LPAs:
- Faster, more efficient processes – streamlined submission and management of appeals reduces administrative burden
- User-friendly dashboard – designed in line with GOV.UK design principles to make reviewing and monitoring cases easier
- Better communication – improved communication between all parties, with less reliance on paper-based processes
- Continuous improvement – the system is regularly updated based on user feedback and real-world use
How cam LPAs use the service?
- Log in to Manage your appeals to view and manage appeals.
- Enter the primary email address that the Planning Inspectorate hold on system.
- A login code will be sent to the email address which you need to enter to access the service.
- The Planning Inspectorate recommends that you set up individual user accounts for each of your team members.
- Each time you access the service in, you will be prompted to enter your email address and you will be sent a new login code by email to access the service.
The new service will eventually replace the Appeals Casework Portal (ACP)
All new cases for the released appeal types will use the new service only – appeal applicants will not be able to access these cases from ACP.
However, any existing cases that were already started on ACP (either in draft or live) before the switchover will continue to be managed in ACP. This includes viewing any decided appeals.+
