The first year of Restore Compliance: Building more than a team
Over the past year, Restore Compliance has evolved from an ambitious vision into a dedicated, high-performing compliance function. As a newly formed registered building control approver (RBCA), our journey has been defined by collaboration, resilience and a shared commitment to raising standards across every aspect of our business.
Creating a new team from the ground up is never simply about filling roles. It is about bringing together people with different backgrounds, experiences and strengths who share a common purpose. Over the last 12 months, that is exactly what we have achieved.
Today, Restore Compliance is built on a foundation of expertise, accountability and continuous improvement. Together, we have established a team that not only understands regulatory expectations but also recognises that effective compliance is fundamental to protecting our customers, supporting our colleagues and strengthening the reputation of our organisation.
Building the right team
Every successful team begins with its people. Throughout our first year, we have focused on recruiting individuals who bring diverse skills and perspectives while sharing the same commitment to integrity, professionalism and customer outcomes. This diversity has become one of our greatest strengths, enabling us to approach challenges from multiple angles and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Our team combines operational knowledge, regulatory expertise, analytical capability and a genuine passion for improving how we work. These complementary skills have allowed us to establish strong foundations while remaining agile enough to respond to evolving regulatory expectations and business priorities.
Just as importantly, we have worked hard to create a culture where collaboration comes naturally. Open communication, mutual respect and a willingness to support one another have enabled us to grow quickly and confidently as a new function.
Investing in the future
One of the achievements we are particularly proud of this year has been launching our Grow Your Own trainee programme. As the building control profession continues to face skills shortages across the industry, developing future talent is essential.
We’re delighted to welcome our first trainee registered building inspector, who has recently begun their professional journey through Total Training & Development. This marks an exciting milestone not only for the individual but also for Restore Compliance as we invest in developing the next generation of building control professionals.
The programme reflects our belief that building expertise from within creates a stronger, more resilient team. By providing structured training, mentoring and practical experience, we are creating opportunities for people to develop rewarding careers while ensuring we continue to build the capability needed for the future.
Establishing strong foundations
The first year of any new team is about more than delivering results; it is about creating sustainable processes that will support long-term success.
Over the past 12 months, Restore Compliance has focused on establishing clear governance, developing consistent ways of working, strengthening oversight and embedding compliance into everyday business activities.
Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, we have built trusted relationships that allow compliance to become a partner rather than simply a control function. By engaging early, listening carefully and providing practical guidance, we have helped ensure that regulatory obligations are understood, achievable and aligned with operational objectives.
This collaborative approach has enabled us to contribute positively to business improvements while maintaining a strong focus on customer protection and regulatory compliance.
Learning together
Building a new team also means creating opportunities for learning and development. Throughout our first year, every member of Restore Compliance has demonstrated an impressive willingness to learn, adapt and continuously improve. Whether developing new technical knowledge, strengthening investigative skills or sharing expertise with colleagues, learning has become part of our everyday culture.
Equally valuable has been the knowledge shared between team members. Different professional backgrounds have created opportunities to challenge assumptions, exchange ideas and develop better ways of working together.
This culture of continuous improvement ensures that our team remains prepared for future regulatory developments while continuing to deliver value across the organisation.
Making a difference
Although Restore Compliance is still a relatively new function, the impact of our work is already becoming visible.
By strengthening oversight, improving governance, supporting business areas and promoting greater awareness of compliance responsibilities, we have helped reinforce a culture where doing the right thing is embedded in daily decision-making.
Compliance is often most successful when it works quietly in the background, preventing issues before they arise, providing confidence to colleagues and supporting consistent, fair customer outcomes.
Behind every review completed, every recommendation implemented and every conversation held is a team committed to helping the organisation succeed responsibly.
Looking ahead
While we are proud of everything achieved during our first year, we recognise that this is only the beginning.
The regulatory landscape continues to evolve, customer expectations continue to grow and organisations must remain adaptable to meet new challenges. Restore Compliance is well positioned to support that journey.
In the coming year, we will continue strengthening our capabilities, enhancing collaboration across the business, investing in the development of our people, embracing innovation and refining our approach to risk and compliance management.
Our focus remains clear:
- Building strong partnerships across every function.
- Investing in future talent through learning and development.
- Encouraging a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Delivering positive outcomes for customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
A team to be proud of
None of what has been achieved over the past year would have been possible without the dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm of every member of the Restore Compliance team.
Launching a new function requires courage, adaptability and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. Each individual has contributed not only their expertise but also their commitment to supporting one another and building something meaningful together.
As we reflect on our first year, we do so with pride in what has been accomplished and optimism for what lies ahead.
Restore Compliance is more than a newly formed RBCA. It is a team built on trust, collaboration and a shared commitment to doing the right thing. By investing in our people today and developing the professionals of tomorrow, we are building a stronger, more sustainable future for both our organisation and the communities we serve.
The foundations have been laid. The relationships have been built. The journey has only just begun.
