Self-builders who visited a barn conversion tour this month were impressed by the construction methods and the combination of heat-reflecting and warmth-retaining qualities of the Actis insulation products used
Visitors were taken on a tour of the factory to see the timber frame kits under construction and the superior quality of the manufacturing process. Customers were also able to view a barn conversion in progress.
Scandia-Hus has used Actis products on all its show homes. The barn conversion is insulated with honeycomb-structured Hybris, an insulating breather membrane and insulating vapour control layer manufactured by Actis.
This is the second ‘live build’ experience in as many months hosted by the company – the other a contemporary flat-roofed bungalow at its show centre near East Grinstead.
Factory tour day receives rave reviews from guests
Product research and site co-ordination manager Jeannette Cooper described the day as a huge success, with one visitor, “Barry,” immediately posting a five-star Google review.
“I was genuinely impressed by the methods of construction and the cleanliness of the site. A tour here will sell the product itself. If you’re looking for a modular building of quality, you won’t get much better than this. And no – I wasn’t paid to say this. This is genuine!” he wrote.
Actis area sales manager Jake Wilson, who explained to visitors how Actis products were installed, talked about both their warmth-retaining and heat-reflecting qualities.
“A significant number of questions were surrounding how Actis compares to PIR on air quality, acoustics and price. They found it very interesting that it was French and designed not only to keep heat in but also to keep it out! The customers loved it!”
An ongoing partnership between Actis and Scandia-Hus
Scandia-Hus has partnered with Actis for many years and is very vocal about the outstanding results delivered by the products.
“The effectiveness, speed and ease of installation make Actis products ideal for our custom builds,” reads its online build diary.
“The innovative heat-trapping honeycomb design of their Hybris insulation ensures every gap between the structural timbers is filled, reducing the risk of thermal bridging. In addition, the reflective vapour control layer (VCL) helps regulate internal temperatures, keeping the property warm in winter and cooler through increasingly hot summers.
“From a practical perspective, Actis panels are simple to cut accurately and straightforward to fit, slotting neatly into place. This not only minimises material wastage but can also reduce installation times by up to 30% compared to more traditional insulation methods.
“By combining thermal performance with airtightness, vapour permeability, moisture resistance, and reflective technology, the Actis system provides a comprehensive and high-performing insulation solution that perfectly aligns with our commitment to building energy-efficient, comfortable homes fit for the future.”
