The Department for Education has appointed Tilbury Douglas to lead the construction of a new two-storey building for Skelton Primary School
The Skelton Primary School construction project will replace the school’s existing building with a new two-storey, energy-efficient facility.
William Kay, regional director – Yorkshire and the North East at Tilbury Douglas, stated: “We are delighted to be delivering this fantastic new school in our community. When complete, it will provide a modern, sustainable learning environment that the school and wider community can be proud of for generations to come.”
The construction of Skelton Primary School incorporates sustainability at the core
The new T-shaped facility will accommodate approximately 630 pupils and include modern classrooms, staff offices and a large multi-purpose sports and dining hall.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the construction of Skelton Primary School will incorporate solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Moreover, the wider site will also feature new playing fields, a sports court and a wildflower meadow created on the footprint of the old school building.
Creating social value through employment and skills
Creating lasting social value is a key priority for Tilbury Douglas. Throughout the project, the team will focus on supporting employment and skills, promoting health and wellbeing, engaging with the local community and delivering fundraising initiatives.
To date, 75% of subcontract orders have been placed with businesses within a 50-mile radius, supporting the regional economy, while two ‘Meet the Buyer’ events have helped create opportunities for local suppliers.
Kay explained: “By working with locally based supply chain partners, we are supporting jobs, creating opportunities and helping to strengthen the regional economy.
“Just as importantly, we are giving pupils the chance to see first-hand how their new school is being built through regular site visits and engagement activities,” he concluded.
