Morgan Sindall has been chosen to deliver a new 420-place net zero primary school in Lankenheath, Suffolk
The project will be the first net zero primary school in the region and will be constructed using CarboniCa to manage and reduce carbon output throughout construction.
Acoustic design is also being implemented due to the school’s close proximity to RAF Lakenheath.
The two-storey Lakenheath Primary and Pre-School will include leisure and sporting facilities, hard and soft landscaped outside play areas, and a new 30-place nursery.
Lakenheath Primary and Pre-School will help to meet demand for school places
The recent planned development of 375 homes has further driven the need for primary school places in the area.
Commenting on the construction of the new net zero in operation school, Alister Broadberry, area director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Eastern Counties, said: “As a local business, we understand how much this development is required and the important role it will play for the growing population of Lakenheath.
“We are excited to get started and engage with the local community to ensure that this school supports them for many generations to come.”
Cllr Rachel Hood, cabinet member for Education, SEND and Skills at Suffolk County Council, added: “This is an important and exciting project providing a much-needed facility for Lakenheath Primary School to relocate and expand. This will also be Suffolk County Council’s first Net Zero primary school.”
