A student accommodation and modular hospital project has been hit with a two-year delay after damp and mould were found in the building

The student accommodation and teaching facility at Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Kent was announced in June 2021 and was set for completion in March 2022.

ESS Modular is the main contractor on the project.

The modular hospital project promised to provide accommodation for 145 medical students and trainee doctors, plus an academic teaching building.

The building is riddled with damp issues

However, the building is now facing a two-year delay after mould and dampness were found throughout the building caused by leaking.

Sources told the Enquirer: “The whole job has become an embarrassment that no-one wants to talk about because it is riddled with damp issues.”

The modular hospital was set to be installed with solar panels, a green wall, and other sustainable features to achieve a BREEAM rating of excellence.

According to a spokesperson for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, damage caused by the ingress of water has been rectified, and internal works will resume once external cladding is complete.
