The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has narrowed down on the next coach for the Super Eagles and could announce his appointment this week or early next week, a source at the federation has said.

Following Super Eagles 1-2 defeat by Benin Republic last week, which put Nigeria’s bid to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in danger, the Sports Ministry and the NFF met and decided to employ a foreign technical adviser for the team to revitalise the country’s bid for the 2026 World Cup ticket.

A source at the NFF, who pleaded anonymity, told The Guardian that everything has been concluded to unveil the coach, who is expected in the country towards the end of the month.

He said the coach is one of the three foreign coaches earlier shortlisted for the job before the federation settled for former Super Eagles star, Finidi George.

George resigned from the job last week following the NFF’s decision to engage for a foreign technical adviser for the team.

“I can’t say exactly who the board has chosen as I don’t have that information, but we have been told that the new manager would be unveiled in the next couple of days.

“I understand that he is an ambitious coach, who is eager to work with the array of stars in the Super Eagles,” the source said.

Belgian outfit, getfootballnewsb, reported yesterday that the NFF has approached Cameroon Coach, Marc Brys, as Super Eagles new head coach.

Brys has been embroiled in controversy since his appointment by the country’s sports ministry against the wishes of the Cameroon FA led by Samuel Eto’o.

Eto’o and Brys recently had a spat after which the former Cameroon captain sacked the Belgian. But he was later reinstated following the intervention of Cameroonian government.

Cameroon leads its group after four games, but the report said the coach could be tempted to work in a friendlier environment, adding that the former OH Leuven head coach has not denied the interest from Nigeria.
