A lady, Bolanle Olukanni, has lamented what she termed a disregard for the Nigerian passport and called for more respect for the country and courtesy.
She expressed her concern after her father, Ambassador Ayoola Olukanni, who was a former ambassador to Australia, was denied a Schengen visa.
Olukanni, the former Nigerian Commissioner to Australia between 2011 and 2015, is also a former Director General of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture.
His daughter, who is a TV host and documentary filmmaker, lamented, “I just want you guys to know that the Nigerian passport has really been bastardised. My father is a whole retired ambassador who lived and served in Austria for three years.
“He applied for a Schengen visa alongside my mum, and the Austrian embassy denied their visas.
“Do you realise the lack of diplomacy and courtesy and disregard for a country you have to have to deny a former foreign service officer a visa? A foreign service officer who served for 30 years and has been to over 30 countries.
“They think he wants to japa to Austria. I’m so insulted.”
