Insulation specialist Actis has released a new video showcasing their sustainability progress and plans for future environmentally-friendly developments
Insulation specialist Actis has created a video highlighting its environmental credentials and its determination to lead the charge in minimising the negative impact of construction materials.
Actis’ ‘doing more with less’ approach to sustainability includes:
Using fewer raw materials
Using no water during the production process
Using minimal energy during manufacture.
As well as looking at the environmental pluses of the newest addition to its range – a two-in-one reflective insulation with an integrated vapour barrier, Eolis HC – its sustainability credentials also apply to its long-established Hybrid range.
These include honeycomb style insulation, Hybris, insulating breather membrane Boost R Hybrid and insulating vapour control layer H Control Hybrid.
Actis’ sustainability approach drives efficiency across the entire product lifecyle
In fact, its energy represents just two per cent of the manufacturing cost of the products.
And its carbon footprint is very low compared with that of other insulation products, at less than 2kg per sq m of CO2.
By recycling all offcuts and feeding them back into the production process, Actis manages to create a zero waste, infinitely recyclable product for the circular economy.
Users can benefit from the porduct’s flexibility, enabling it to be moulded to fit between timbers, means waste is minimised.
The fact that Eolis HC and the Hybrid products are so light – being largely made of air – means each pallet of product contains more U-value than an equivalent-sized pallet of traditional insulation.
As the video highlights, fewer pallets equals fewer trucks, less fuel, lower road congestion and lower diesel emissions.
Additionally, Actis offsets an element of its carbon use by planting native mature plane trees along the Canal du Midi, near its manufacturing plant in south west France.
“Last year Actis, together with other tree sponsors, funded the planting of 2,400 plane trees. We do this because the Canal du Midi is part of the Actis region and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Contributing to the protection and preservation of our company’s territory and French heritage has always been part of our DNA,” said Actis UK and Ireland sales director Mark Cooper.
Health and wellbeing of occupants and installers are of high importance
Eolis HC, designed primarily for use in low headspace zones, contains no volatile organic compounds or harmful chemicals and is rated A+ for air quality, meaning occupants and installers need not worry about respiratory issues.
For installers of all its products, no dust or harmful fibres are produced, eliminating the need for respiratory protection.
Hybris has become the only reflective insulation in Europe to earn international Cradle to Cradle Certification for its sustainability credentials, in recognition of Actis’ zero waste policy and the 100% recyclability of all its products.
Mark Cooper added: “The new video is designed to show the construction industry that we are in earnest about striving for environmental excellence and to underline our mantra that, for us, innovation has always meant doing more with less.”
