Ardmore has announced that it is handing over the development of Battersea Power Station Phase 4a, to its client Peabody

The £9bn Battersea Power Station project will deliver a mixed-use development featuring a new neighbourhood and business quarter. The plan includes a Zone 1 extension to the London Underground Northern Line and the restoration of the Grade II* listed Power Station.

The workload has been shared by several construction and design teams

The project is divided into eight phases, each designed by specialist architects such as SimpsonHaugh and Partners, De Rijke Marsh Morgan (dRMM), WilkinsonEyre, Foster + Partners, and Gehry Partners.

Circus West Village (Phase 1), completed in 2017, houses over 1,800 residents, bars, restaurants, and leisure facilities. Battersea Power Station (Phase 2) opened on October 14, 2022, featuring Apple’s London Campus, shops, a Dolby cinema, a food hall, and residences.

The project will provide space for 25,000 people

Once complete the development will host 25,000 people, creating one of London’s largest office, retail, leisure, and cultural quarters. The 42-acre site includes 250 shops, cafes, restaurants, a theatre, a hotel, a medical centre, and 19 acres of public space, with over 3 million sq. ft of commercial space and new homes.

The site, originally occupied by several low-rise industrial buildings, runs adjacent to the mainline railway, just eight meters from the operational rail line.

For Phase 4a, Ardmore completed the shell and core of a new 17,000 sqft NHS medical centre and 12,000 sqft of flexible workspaces for local entrepreneurs in Battersea Power Station.

The development includes seven blocks, reaching heights of up to 18 storeys. These blocks are arranged around a central garden square in the middle of the site.

The design was completed by Patel Taylor Architects, who drew inspiration from London’s redbrick mansion blocks. The building’s design follows a conventional design, featuring cast-in-place concrete frames and floors and lightweight infill and masonry.
