The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has commenced the construction of a 30-bed hospital for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Bauchi State.

The hospital project, valued at N500 million, is part of ASR Africa’s N10 billion security sector support grant, designed to support and enhance the armed forces and security agencies’ capacity to fulfill their mandate to effectively and efficiently serve the nation.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which was held at the NCS command in Bauchi State on Monday, follows the presentation of award letters to Nigeria’s security agencies in December 2022 by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr Ubon Udoh.

Udoh reiterated the commitment of the Chairman of the Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and the company to fulfill their pledges to Nigeria’s security agencies.

He stated that ASR Africa is actively engaging with all beneficiaries of the security grant and is on track with the implementation of all selected projects.

Udoh thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service for their collaboration on this important initiative.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of ASR Africa, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for the generous grant.

He emphasised that this is the first significant contribution of its kind to the Nigeria Customs Service from any organisation. Adeniyi highlighted the importance of the project for the welfare of the agency’s personnel and committed to ensuring the facility will be adequately staffed with medical professionals once completed.

Other recipients of the security sector support grant include the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
