Seven contractors, including Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindall Construction, have secured places on SP Energy Networks’ transmission business’ £1.4bn Strategic Agreement for Overhead Line Works framework. for replacing long distance electricity systems across Scotland

The five-year SP Energy framework will see Balfour Beatty, Morgan Sindall Construction, M Group Energy, Aureos Energy, Wood, Painhas S.A., Carluke-based PLPC Ltd, and Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios SA replace and install new 400kV, 275kV and 132kV overhead line conductor systems – used to carry electricity across long distances –across Central and Southern Scotland. There is an option to extend the framework for a further five years.

Contracts, including defined scope and value of works, are expected to be awarded later this year and throughout the duration of the contract.

Helping deliver the government’s Clean Power 2030 mission

The framework will support SP Energy Networks transmission business in delivering the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 mission, which aims to unlock more capacity for new homes, businesses, and clean energy projects, move power around the country more efficiently, and significantly reduce the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels, all whilst boosting energy security.

Morgan Sindall previously signed up to be a supply chain parter with SP Energy Networks

Over the summer a number of supply chain partners were announced for the Scottish electricity scheme, including Morgan Sindall, who signed SP Energy Networks’ Delivery Charter. The charter pledges to commit to green job creation, positive community impact, and a safe working environment.

Speaking at the time, Simon Smith, managing director, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, said: “We’re proud to support the UK energy network’s biggest upgrade in a generation, and to be part of SP Energy Networks’ Delivery Charter. Projects like the Denny to Wishaw Network Optimisation (DWNO) will improve resilience and energy security, boost capacity to meet future demand, and connect Scotland to greener, renewable energy. In upgrading the transmission network, we will be able to bring skills and employment to the central belt, and leave a lasting legacy in the local communities.”
