Construction firm Balfour Beatty have been selected to deliver on student housing projects in Florida
The projects Balfour Beatty have been chosen for have a combined value of $168m (£129m).
The individual projects are Rollins College East End Neighbourhood, Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) 2026 Campus Student Housing project, and Nova Southeastern University’s dining renovation.
The Rollins College contract was awarded in August
The project has a value of £41.5m and will see Holt Hall, the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex, and Copeland Stadium replaced.
The college is introducing a requirement to live on campus for three years, and this project will support that by delivering more campus accommodation for students.
FAU’s student housing project was awarded in September
FAU’s student housing project has a value of £69m, seeing the construction of a new residence hall with 670 beds on the Boca Raton campus. The hall will be around 203,000 sq ft with 3- and 4-bedroom suites for students.
Each suite will be fitted with a kitchenette and each bedroom will be single occupancy. The hall will also contain study spaces, further kitchen facilities, laundry units, and flex spaces for various uses. Shaded outdoor spaces will be constructed.
Nova Southeastern renovation contract
The Nova Southeastern dining renovation contract was awarded earlier this month, worth £18.4m. The renovation is for the Health Profession Division’s Terry Dining Hall, and will involve partial demolition of existing spaces, and an overhaul of the dining area and lobby.
New dining and kitchen spaces will be constructed, utilities will be relocated, the service yard will be expanded, and a new Starbucks coffee shop will be constructed in the Terry Building.
Balfour Beatty are diversifying
John Harris, Balfour Beatty executive vice president in Florida, said: “We are thrilled to be chosen for these transformative projects that will enhance the student experience across three prestigious institutions in Florida.
“These contracts not only represent our commitment to providing essential campus improvements for our clients, but also underscores Balfour Beatty’s project diversification and growth strategy in the Southeast’s higher education market sector.”
Completion of all three projects is expected by 2026.
