No fewer than seven people are feared dead after a two-storey school building in Plateau State collapsed, leaving many students and teachers trapped.

The school, Saint Academy, located in the Busa Buji community in Jos North Local Government Area, collapsed on Friday morning around 8:30 am, when many students and teachers were already in their classrooms.

According to Reuters, five students have been rescued alive. Rescue efforts are underway, with security personnel including soldiers and police at the scene.

The news agency added that seven lifeless bodies had been pulled from the rubble of the collapsed school building.

The news of the collapse jolted the community, as distraught residents and parents with children in the school rushed to the institution to ascertain their fate.

According to reports, many residents were seen wailing while security personnel and emergency workers were busy trying to pull survivors from the rubble.
