Chima Udoye has won the ninth edition of music competition, Nigerian Idol, going home with N30 million, SUV, music deal, with DSTV Explorer plus one year premium subscription.

Udoye followed the footsteps of Mercy Chinwo, Moses Obi Adigwe, Evelle, K-Peace, Kingdom Kroseide, Progress and Victory Gbakara, who have won the competition.

Countdown to the Season 9 grand finale began on May 26. Each episode brought out the best in the contestants, who showcased their incredible vocals and stage presence in a bid to impress the judges and secure their place in the competition.

Joining the panel of judges this year are music role models 9ice, Omawunmi, and Ric Hassani. IK Osakioduwa returned as the host of this year’s competition.

This year’s theme, “Let Your Dreams Take Flight,” perfectly captures the essence of the competition as the contestants brought their very best in each episode. Chioma, Mira, David, Lady Ruth, Stevie, Maio, Chima, Jennifer, and Gracia made the top 10. In a surprising twist, Lammy and Japh Kenti find themselves tied for the final spot and dependened on the public votes to secure a spot.

As the show progressed, it came time for the eviction last week. IK had previously mentioned that the week would be a double elimination, which heightened the tension in the room. The audience, contestants, and their families, who were brought on stage, waited with bated breath for the results. It was also revealed that Ric Hassani, as the winning judge, had the power to save one of the bottom two contestants or let both be eliminated.

After a staggering 40 million votes, it was announced that Chima and Lammy had made it through to the finale. This left Mira Clear and Chioma in the bottom two, with one of them potentially going home. Ric Hassani, faced with the tough decision of saving one or letting both go, ultimately chose to save Chioma, resulting in Mira Clear’s departure.

The second round of performances showcased the top three contestants in their final efforts to secure votes ahead of the finale. After weeks of intrigues, tears, entertainment, pure music and energetic, Chima Udoye eventually, emerged the winner. Chima is a determined singer with a powerful voice and a story that inspires. Having faced adversity at a young age, music has always been his solace. With Nigerian Idol as his platform, he shared his gift with the world. For the rising star, the show represents a stepping stone to stardom.
