The music scene in Nigeria has been getting global recognition now more than ever, with Nigerian artistes setting records on international platforms. Spotify, one of the biggest streaming services, is a tool for measuring artistes success. CKay, Tems, and Victony have EPs that are commercially successful, which translates to huge streaming numbers on Spotify. The data in this article is from Spotify Nigeria.
Ckay
Leading the pack is CKay, the singer-songwriter whose EP “CKay The First” has over 883 million streams. Born Chukwuka Chukwuma Ekweani, CKay debuted in the music industry with his debut studio album, “CKay The First,” on 30 August 2019. The album’s lead single, “Love Nwantiti,” became one of the biggest songs in the year of its release. The song topped the Billboard and UK Singles charts. Artistes featured on the album are Dj Lambo, Boj, Blaqbonez, and Barry Jhay.

Tems
Closely following in second place is Tems, the fast-rising R&B/Soul and Alternative singer. Her EP “For Broken Ears” has accumulated over 466 million streams. Released on 25 September 2020, the album set the stage for Tems current global success. “For Broken Ears,” has no guest features from other artistes and Tems is the composer and producer for all 7 tracks on the EP. “Higher,” “Free Mind,” and “Damages,” are some of the EPs most hyped songs.
Victony
Rounding out the top 3 is Victony, the 23-year-old singer whose EP “Outlaw” has 250 million streams. Victony’s music is essentially Afrobeats with elements of hip-hop, R&B and Alte. The 7-track EP has features from Tempoe and KTIZO. Some of the hit songs off the EP are “Jolene,” “Apollo,” and “All Power.”
These three relatively new Nigerian artistes have gotten national and global success with their EPs, a feat even older artistes have yet to achieve.
