CIBSE is Building for the Future: Find out how you can shape the future of building services engineering

At the heart of the journey to net zero lies the building services sector, where engineers play a pivotal role in creating the sustainable infrastructure of tomorrow.

Recognising this vital responsibility, CIBSE is embarking on an ambitious journey of its own: the Building for the Future campaign. This initiative is not just about a new headquarters; it is about creating a lasting legacy that will shape the future of building services engineering and inspire generations of engineers around the world.

CIBSE’s vision is clear: to establish a world-class Skills Hub at its new head office in Farringdon, London – a space that embodies the core values of knowledge-sharing, collaboration, lifelong learning and innovation.

As the building services sector rises to meet the global challenges of climate change, there is a critical need for a space that reflects our leadership in sustainable building performance, supports continuous professional development and encourages the next generation of engineers to lead with expertise and passion. This Skills Hub will become
a cornerstone for these efforts, serving as a catalyst for change in the way we educate, collaborate and innovate.

Learning and collaboration

This new facility will go far beyond traditional office space. It will be a dynamic, vibrant environment where learning and collaboration are at the forefront.

At the heart of the Skills Hub, there will be a modern theatre designed for lectures, events and knowledge-sharing, where experts from across the industry can gather to discuss new ideas, challenges and solutions.

Adjacent to this space will be contemporary training facilities, designed to equip engineers with the tools and knowledge they need to stay ahead of an ever-evolving industry. With a focus on professional development, these facilities will serve as the foundation for lifelong learning, empowering engineers to refine their skills and push the boundaries of what is possible.

In addition, the Skills Hub will feature collaborative workspaces designed to foster networking, idea exchange and industry engagement. This will not be just a space to work but a place to be inspired, connect with like-minded professionals and contribute to the collective effort to build a sustainable future. CIBSE’s ambition is to create a community of innovators, where engineers can come together to share expertise, support each other and lead the way in advancing building services engineering worldwide.

CIBSE’s CEO, Ruth Carter, said: “At CIBSE, we are committed to fostering innovation, collaboration and sustainability in the built environment. Our new head office is more than just a new space; it’s a symbol of our commitment to shaping the future of the profession  globally and ensuring that the next generation of engineers is equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

“With the support of our members and partners, we can make this vision a reality and continue driving progress for the building services sector worldwide.”

Investing in the future

The Building for the Future campaign represents a unique, once-in-a-generation opportunity for all those who care about the future of the building services industry to contribute to something truly transformative.

CIBSE is not merely asking for donations; we are inviting individuals and organisations to invest in the future of our profession. Your support will help bring this vision to life, not just through the creation of physical spaces but through the broader impact we will have on the profession as a whole. Your involvement will ensure that the next generation of engineers has access to the resources, mentorship and community they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

CIBSE is deeply committed to recognising and celebrating the contributions of those who make this vision a reality. Donors will be acknowledged for their support through high-profile recognition, including naming opportunities within the new facilities, ensuring that their contribution will leave a lasting mark on the institution and the profession.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference – one that will shape the future of our industry and the generations of engineers who will carry it forward. Let’s come together to
build something truly transformative. Let’s build for the future.
