As a high-impact, low-impact event, Futurebuild 2025 is set to lead by example in sustainable practices, making it an unmissable occasion for those committed to creating a sustainable built environment. Martin Hurn, event director for Futurebuild, highlights what is in store for 2025
Futurebuild, a construction event like no other, is excited to announce its 2025 show theme of “Impact”.
The theme not only underscores Futurebuild’s dedication to innovation and sustainability but also showcases its mission to drive significant change in the built environment and the communities it serves.
Championing sustainability to make an impact
The theme of Impact represents Futurebuild’s ongoing commitment to making a positive and lasting difference while minimising its environmental footprint.
For two decades, Futurebuild has driven the sustainability agenda and is more committed than ever to ensure the built environment remains on track to achieving net zero goals. Futurebuild doesn’t just talk the talk, it walks the talk by creating a high-impact, low-impact event and implementing its own sustainable practices.
Futurebuild held its first-ever Sustainable Stand Awards in 2024, celebrating exhibitors championing sustainability through their stands. The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) took home the inaugural award with a shell constructed entirely from recycled timber and OSB board alongside recycled, carbon-negative carpet.
Furthermore, Futurebuild promotes sustainable food and drink options, and has drastically reduced paper usage through the implementation of smart badge software.
It has also made impressive cuts to its biggest waste streams, including removing 9000 sq m of aisle carpet at the event. It will continue to eliminate waste by using REWIND carpet, a Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver product, for feature areas and shell-schemes.
Easyfairs, the company behind Futurebuild, has also demonstrated its commitment by publishing its first-ever annual sustainability report. The report transparently outlines the company’s performance up to the end of 2023 and sets ambitious targets for the future.
Key highlights include a remarkable reduction in Easyfairs’ carbon footprint by a third since 2019, aligning perfectly with Futurebuild’s ethos of impactful and sustainable change.
Collaborate to impact
We attract the entire supply chain – architects, housebuilders, developers, consultants, contractors and manufacturers – to facilitate positive change together.
Our inclusive event programme is curated by industry partners and distinguished speakers, and ensures an encompassing, exciting and diverse range of perspectives and expertise is represented and that all content has a purpose.
As part of the Impact campaign for Futurebuild 2025, a new podcast series has been launched, highlighting individuals making significant contributions to the built environment.
The first episode, Changing the Climate of Architecture, features a conversation between Martin Hurn, Futurebuild event director, and Duncan Baker-Brown, a renowned architect known for his innovative approach to sustainable architecture.
Subsequent episodes promise equally insightful discussions with influential figures such as Martin Townsend, global head of sustainability and circular economy at the British Standards Institution, and Dr Oliver Jones, research director at Ryder Architecture.
Both Townsend and Jones are active ambassadors for net zero futures and are instrumental in promoting the next generation of standards and guidance.
Impact with innovation
Futurebuild showcases the best in products and materials, and supports innovation to help create net zero buildings faster, safer and more efficiently.
It supports companies of all sizes, from industry leaders to emerging startups, fostering an environment where new ideas thrive and contribute to the net zero agenda and 75% of visitors discover new innovations at the event.
As a way to kick off the Impact theme for 2025, Futurebuild invited the entire industry to get involved with an extensive industry-wide research project. It aims to seek insights and nominations for the top 50 individuals making the biggest impact in the built environment. The survey results will be published in September.
