With June being recognised as the hottest on record in England and a third heatwave imminent, insulation specialist Actis is repeating its message that insulation can help mitigate the impact of extreme temperatures
The mercury is set to soar again this week in another heatwave across the UK, with heat health alerts being put in place for many parts of the country, while last month was the hottest in nearly a century and a half in England and the second hottest June in the wider UK.
June was the hottest in England since Met Office records began in 1884
“The continued and repeated extreme hot weather shows this is not just a rare phenomenon, but something whose impact needs to be prepared for,” explained Actis UK and Ireland sales director Mark Cooper.
“It’s time to think ahead about futureproofing our homes and ensuring that as well as keeping them warm in winter we help the occupants stay cool in the summer.”
The right insulation can keep a home warm and cool when appropriate
While some forms of insulation can make homes unbearably hot during heatwaves, others, such as those in the Actis Hybrid range and its two-in-one Eolis HC, can actually keep them cool, while still performing their tradition warmth-maintaining duties in the winter.
In fact, all Actis products have been specifically designed to help buildings stay cool, as well as warm, with the reflective films from which Eolis HC is created reflecting 95% of infrared radiation.
Mark added: “Part O of the building regulations obliges architects to limit unwanted solar gains and provide a way to remove heat from residential dwellings. And, in addition to siting windows in new builds strategically and drawing curtains, installing reflective insulation can help protect the health and comfort of the occupants.”
Heatwaves are now 30 times more likely to occur than before the industrial revolution, according to the Met Office, which says they could even occur every other year by the 2050s as greenhouse gas concentrations increase.
