One of wrestling’s most popular figures, John Cena, has announced his retirement from WWE.

During the Money In The Bank event on Saturday night, the 47-year-old wrestler shared that his final appearances will be at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas in 2025.

Cena made the announcement as he stood in the ring, addressing a packed arena. “Why am I here? Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,” he began, to a mixture of applause and surprise from the audience.

He reflected on his two-decade-long career highlighting the highs and lows he experienced along the way.

“I’ve been in WWE for over two decades. And in that time I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town, no doubt,” Cena said. “And I’ve also seen tremendous hardship and that’s when nobody knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend, and only the most dedicated, hardcore fans stand by your side.”

He praised the support of Canadian fans, noting their importance to WWE’s success. “Whether the WWE was hot or cold, Canadians always show up. All of you built this to what it is today which makes this, in my mind, the perfect place to say what I’ve got to say.”

John Cena’s announcement ended with the crowd chanting “Thank you Cena” in unison. Cena responded, “What an incredible gesture of kindness. I wanna say thank you, thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built.”

He concluded his speech by challenging other WWE superstars to hurry up and have their last wrestling matches with him. “Hurry up and come get some… because the last time is now.”
