Morgan Sindall Construction’s London division has been selected to spearhead a comprehensive rejuvenation project for Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre
Selected by the City of London Academies Trust (COLAT) and the Department for Education, Morgan Sindall will majorly upgrade Newham Collegiate, a Grade-II listed institution, breathing new life into its academic facilities.
This ambitious Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre project, located on Barking Road, Newham, has been awarded through the Department for Education’s construction framework.
It will encompass two primary elements: the refurbishment of the former East Ham Police Station and the construction of a contemporary structure at the rear of the existing building.
These developments will introduce modern, high-quality teaching spaces for students, seamlessly connected by a striking glass façade dining hall.
How will Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre be upgraded?
The transformation of Newham Collegiate will yield significant benefits for the institution, including adding 11 classrooms and four seminar rooms, effectively creating an extra 60 places for students.
Furthermore, the project places a strong emphasis on sustainable transportation, with the construction of two new cycle storage facilities aimed at encouraging eco-friendly commuting among prospective students.
Additionally, a green roof featuring over 100 square meters of photovoltaic (PV) panels will be installed on-site to promote environmental sustainability.
Richard Dobson, Area Director at Morgan Sindall Construction in London, commented: “It is a pleasure to be working alongside the City of London Academies Trust and the Department for Education to be supporting the world-leading Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, as it looks to secure its long-term future.
“Our team is experienced working on historic buildings within the capital, with the former East Ham Police Station being a key example. The finished design will embrace the site’s heritage and enhance it with a contemporary design, modern materials and our expertise in creating high end educational spaces that provide students with the best possible learning experience.”
