The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City will host the 2024 National Division 1 Handball Premier League which begins Monday, July 15, 2024.

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) in partnership with the Edo Sports Commission are the host and sponsor of the event.

The Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Olympian Yussuf Alli, assured the HFN and the participating teams of a hitch-free and memorable event and stay in Benin.

The Chairman, Competition Organizing Commission for the Handball Federation of Nigeria Prof. Emmanuel Akhigbe, said participating teams and officials are expected to arrive in Benin City on Sunday, July 14 2024 while the handball league actions begin on Monday to Friday, July 19 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City.

The National Division 1 League is the second tier league wherein the champions and runners-up in the male and female categories respectively will gain promotion to play in the top tier Ardova Handball Premier League, 2025.

Teams expected to participate in the 2024 Handball Division 1 League were relegated from the Ardova Handball Premier League 2023. They include the Bendel Dynamos Men team, Bayelsa Queens, Benue Queens, Police Machine Men team, and others not participating in the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024.

Meanwhile, HFN Secretary-General, Almu Lambu, appreciated the Edo State Government for partnering with the HFN in hosting the event.
