Niger State Ministry of Communication, Technology and Digital Economy, in collaboration with a private ICT firm, Tech4Dev (Technology for Development), has opened a week-long sectoral ICT training for selected civil servants from the ministries and agencies of the state government.

Declaring the programme open at the weekend in Minna, the Head of Service, Abubakar Salisu, spoke of plans to redeploy ICT officers to the MDAs.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service, Dr. James Kolo, the head of service stressed the importance of ICT in contemporary society, adding that two decades ago, the state integrated the e-payment system into its civil service to promote administration.

Abubakar said the government had initiated e-compliance training for civil servants to be ICT savvy and more productive. In his keynote address, the Commissioner for Communication Technology and Digital Economy, Suleiman Isah, explained that the training was to up-skill civil servants for efficiency and better service delivery.

He said the training is a pilot system, pointing out that three persons each were nominated from about 154 MDAs to participate in the programme.

Suleiman expressed optimism that with the adoption of e-governance, the training would assist the civil servants a lot. Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Musa, stated that the training was to equip the participants with essential digital skills and knowledge to perform well in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

He advised workers to retool themselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate and harness the power of technology for the betterment of their work and communities, noting that the knowledge and skills they acquire would not only benefit them individually but will also contribute to the overall digital transformation of the state.
