The Ebira community in Ondo State, at the weekend, vowed to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his deputy, Olayide Adelami, in their quest to be elected in the forthcoming off-cycle governorship election in the state.
While assuring the governor and his deputy of massive mobilisation ahead of the November 16 polls, the Ohinoyi of Ebira in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Council Area of the state, Isa Ahmed, described the choice of Adelami as a running mate to Aiyedatiwa as “divine.”
The leader of the Ebira community in the town, who stated this while playing host to Adelami, emphasised that Aiyedatiwa remains a de-tribalized leader who is accommodating and fair to all, irrespective of ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.
According to Ahmed, who prayed for a peaceful election as well as unity in the state, Aiyedatiwa will emerge victorious at the polls, adding that “he is our son, in whom we are very pleased. Yours is a victory ticket.”
Speaking through the community’s spokesperson, Isa Onimisi, the Ebira leader assured the deputy governor of overwhelming support, stressing that the community will deliver massive votes for Adelami and his boss.
On his part, the deputy governor stated, “Growing up in Owo, I had a lot of friends who are Ebira people, who even lived in the same house with us. At a point, I became very fluent in the language. We have a long history together, and I urge you to sustain that.”
Adelami assured that they will soon roll out new programmes in the agriculture sector that will benefit every player in the value chain, adding that the Ebira people are a key part of Aiyedatiwa’s government.
He said: “Top on the agenda of Mr. Governor is food security, and we are pursuing it with a lot of commitment. We have programmes for every socio-economic category in society. We need your unreserved cooperation.
“This overwhelming support speaks volumes, and we will never take it for granted. I will go back home and report to my principal all that I have seen here.”
