Hackney Council has released images and details of the plans for the east London estate

Body: The De Beauvoir Estate regeneration will bring nearly 300 new homes across the estate and Blandford Court at Lockner Estate.

The plans for De Beauvoir have been in consultation with residents since 2018.

Priority is on council homes

Planning permission was granted by a sub-committee in 2022 for 189 new homes, including new council homes. Improvements will also be made to existing homes, public spaces, and a new neighbourhood housing office and affordable workspace will be constructed.

New homes will be constructed in Phase 1 at the depot on the corner of Downham Road and Southgate Road, 81 Downham Road and the ball court next door, the Balmes Road podium garages, the depot on the corner of Downham Road and De Beauvoir Road, and the car parking spaces on the corner of Downham Road and Hertford Road.

In Phase 2, another 120 homes in four new buildings will be built after demolishing the Queensbridge and De Beauvoir neighbourhood housing office, the Hackney Council depot on Balmes Road, Trinity Court, and commercial units at 19, 21, 23, 25, 27 and 29 De Beauvoir Road and 57, 59, 61, 63 and 65 Downham Road.

50% of the homes constructed in this phase will be social rent and shared ownership and will be allocated to families on the housing wait list.

The De Beauvoir Estate regeneration plans are still developing

The plans are still in development with proposals and changes being made in both phases, while the plans for Blandford Court garages is still in the public engagement round.

Residents are being encouraged to get involved in the design process to ensure that new homes and the environment around them benefit those who need them the most.

Nearby residents can expect written invitations to get involved in the consultation.

Several areas of the UK are currently set for regeneration projects, such as the Eastgate Quarter in Leeds which is lined up for a £1bn regeneration. Plans for this project include a more residential-led plan rather than the previous retail-led plan.

At the time, Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “The regeneration of Eastgate Quarter represents a major milestone for our city, with this landmark investment unlocking new homes, jobs and commercial space, helping to shape a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable future for Leeds. We look forward to working closely with the joint venture partners to bring their ambitious vision to life”.
