Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested four suspected hoodlums for the killing of Brigadier General Harold Udokwere at his home in Sunshine Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja.
The suspects, who spoke in Hausa, told newsmen that a certain Alhaji informed them that the General had money in his house.
Police operatives have so far recovered the knife used to commit the crime and also the cell phone of the General.
The Alhaji, who reportedly took the General’s rifle, is now at large.
According to him, while four suspects are in custody, two others identified as Mallam and Ardo fled the scene with the General’s pistol and have been declared wanted by the police.
One of the suspects said: “One Alhaji told us the General had money in his house. We went there to rob him, but when he brought out his gun, we had to attack him with our knives. We did not plan to kill him.”
The detectives in the FCT Police Command had launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome killing of the retired army Brigadier General in one of the estates in FCT.
The estate was invaded by the armed robbers, who reportedly raided house to house, including the home of Brigadier General Uwem.
Police boss, CP Benneth Igweh, who addressed newsmen, noted that FCT has launched a high-level investigation into the matter and would soon arrest the two others who are at large.
According to Igweh, “In response to the tragic and unprecedented attack at Sunshine Homes Estate by armed robbers, resulting in the untimely demise of Brigadier General Uwem Harold Udokwere (retd.) on June 22, 2024, at approximately 03:00 a.m, we have promptly ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this regrettable event. We have the four suspects who killed the General.”
Expressing profound condolences to the bereaved family, CP Benneth Igweh assured the family and the public of swift justice, with every effort to ensure the perpetrators of the atrocious act are apprehended and brought to justice.
“We reaffirm the unflinching commitment of the command to amplify the security landscape of the nation’s capital by continually adapting strategies to effectively combat evolving criminal activities.”
Igweh urged criminals to quit the state or face the full wrath of the police.
