President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Silas Agara as the new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

Agara, an entrepreneur and sports administrator, previously served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State.

He succeeds Nuhu Fikpo, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, announced this in a statement issued on Saturday titled “President Tinubu appoints new Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment.”

President Tinubu anticipates an “overhaul of the NDE for optimal performance in designing and implementing programmes to combat mass unemployment.”

The NDE was established in November 1986 and began operations in January 1987 to address the effects of the economic recession of the 1980s, which led to a significant drop in capacity utilisation and the consequent closure of industries in Nigeria.
