The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has expressed shock at the discovery of the lifeless body of a first-year student, Okenyi Favour Oluchukwu, in a drainage in the school premises.

The remains of Oluchukwu, who enrolled in the department of Medical Laboratory Science, were allegedly found inside the drainage, near Akanu Ibiam stadium, last Friday.

The circumstances that led to her death are yet to be ascertained. However, the institution’s management said it was already working with security agencies and the family.

Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the school, Okun Omeaku, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the university’s community had been thrown into mourning.

He said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Okenyi Favour Oluchukwu, was a first-year student enrolled in our Department of Medical Laboratory Science.

“The administration is deeply saddened by the loss of our student and extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased over the tragic death of such a promising young student.

The management is collaborating with security agencies and the family of the deceased to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and prevent any potential recurrence of such incidents in the future. Omeaku implored anyone in possession of useful information that could aid in the investigation to kindly reach out to the administration.
