[Video] Fireco: 80 new fire doors required for residential flats in London

Situated within walking distance of Regent’s Park, Lord’s View One is a purpose-built residential block overlooking Lord’s Cricket Ground, in St. John’s Wood, London. As the building has recently been fully refurbished, it was a timely opportunity to upgrade the fire doors.

The problem: Non-compliant doors needed to be updated

“We replaced the doors because over half of the doors weren’t compliant with current regs, and the other half needed substantial remedial work,” explains Sima Elli, resident and coordinator of the fire door project. “Bearing in mind that the building was being fully refurbished, we felt it would be prudent to move ahead with a full replacement.”

However, the Residents’ Board of Lord’s View One found it challenging to find the right company to provide the service.

“We contacted around a dozen companies that supply and install fire doors,” continues Sima. “But either they were too slow to respond, didn’t respond at all, didn’t supply the full specification that we were looking for, and didn’t fill us with confidence.”

The solution: 80 fire doors were fitted by Fireco

Sima says, “I then spoke to Alex Babbage of Fireco. He is extremely knowledgeable and attentive, and took the time to explain everything meticulously with so much patience, attending to our priorities and concerns every step of the way.

“Alex visited me on site and brought along samples of the veneer options and closers. We felt safe in his hands to commit to moving forward with our order of 80 FD30S walnut veneer doors with concealed closers.

“Jake Trowell attended a site visit to carry out the survey and Cherri Wheeler worked closely with me to put a schedule of works together.

“Martin Pearce managed the entire project and accommodated our requests efficiently and without a fuss, communicating with me at every juncture.

The veneer doors themselves are beautiful, and best of all are their incredible acoustic and draught insulation qualities.”
