A video and new photos have been released showcasing the completed groundwork phase of the new station

The HS2 Curzon Street station now has 2,011 piles, concrete columns installed to support the building’s foundations.

The video released showcases the completed piles, while the images show landscape designs being submitted for approval to Birmingham City Council.

The station will feature 7 platforms

As a whole, the station will span for over 400m between Moor Street station and Millennium Point, and the platforms will be covered by an arched roof in a Victorian style.

The completed piles are each between six metres and 24 metres deep, sinking into the ground to support the building as a whole.

HS2 Ltd’s senior project manager, Alistair Morgan said: “Once complete, Curzon Street will be a new landmark for Birmingham – and provide a fitting city centre terminus for a railway that will improve journeys and free up space on the existing West Coast Main Line. These new images also show how it will be integrated into the rest of the city – with new green spaces, better accessibility and onward public transport links.

“It’s great to see how much progress has been made on the foundation works and I’d like to thank everyone who’s been working so hard to get the job done. But we’ve still got a lot of work to do before the first passengers arrive, and I look forward to seeing more significant progress in the year ahead.”

Key viaducts on the HS2 line have been completed

Last month, HS2 announced the completion of the Coleshill viaducts, consisting of over 1,000 concrete deck segments to create a length of track over 600m long.

Located near Birmingham, the viaducts are located between the M6 and M42, forming part of the Delta junction.

The Delta junction will be a huge intersection formed from several viaducts, flyovers, and underpasses to carry trains past motorways, local roads, other railways, rivers, and floodplains safely.

Caroline Warrington, HS2 Ltd’s head of delivery, said: “HS2 will transform journeys between our two largest cities, while freeing up space on the existing West Coast Main Line for more freight and local services.

“The Delta forms a key part of the project and it’s great to see it starting to come together. I’d like to thank everyone involved in the Coleshill viaducts and look forward to seeing more progress in the year ahead, as the focus turns to completing the robust kerbs and parapets.”
