Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has flagged off the disbursement of N260 million for the second phase of the women empowerment initiative targeted at enhancing small-scale businesses in Kano State.

The initiative launched in May, 2024, was designed to distribute N50,000 each to 5,200 women selected across the 44 local government areas on monthly basis.

The beneficiaries include 100 women each drawn from 36 local government areas outside the metropolis while 200 women were selected each from the eight metropolitan local government areas of the state.

Different beneficiaries are selected monthly to enable the initiative spread across those in need.

While flagging the disbursement, Governor Yusuf reminded them that the initiative was in fulfillment of his campaign promises on human development.

Yusuf hinted that the initiative is targeted at enhancing the development of small and micro businesses, adding that the monthly capital empowerment would break the cycle of poverty in the state.

He warned those shouldered with the responsibility of distributing the money to beneficiaries to ensure transparency as his administration will not tolerate corrupt acts.

The Kano State Governor also cautioned the beneficiaries to make judicious meaning of the gesture.

“Since the begining of our empowerment program in all the local governments of the state, this is the second segment of the initiative,” he said.

“100 women have been selected to benefit from 36 local governments and 200 each from the eight local governments that make up the metropolis of Kano.

“Each of the beneficiaries will be given N50,000 each, making a total of N260 million for the month of July.”

Yusuf expressed gratitude to the contribution of women since the begining of the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement and also for voting for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the state.

The governor finally performed the ceremony of handing over the dummy cheques to the beneficiaries.
