Actis and Scandia-Hus host informative ‘live build’ experience for builders

More than 100 builders and self-builders attending a ‘live build’ experience of a Scandia-Hus home insulated with the Actis Hybrid system were impressed by the products’ thermal efficiency and the installation process

A total of 141 people joined tours of the Ashurst, a contemporary flat-roofed L-shaped bungalow, the latest Scandia-Hus home to use the Hybrid range, which is specified in all its timber frame packages.

They were among more than 200 visitors who attended a recent open day hosted by the Swedish timber frame specialist at its West Sussex HQ.

Builders impressed by Actis live build experience

Visitors gave the quality and presentation of the homes a score of 4.86 out of five.

Scandia-Hus product research and site co-ordination manager Jeannette Cooper explained: “The feedback on the day from our customers has been very positive, with visitors telling us it was really interesting and very informative, that it was great to see and understand key construction processes and materials, and to see the quality of the build beneath the surface.”

Actis South East England regional specification manager Jason Docherty, who took part in the event, added: “Most questions about the Actis solutions centred around what U-values were being achieved in the walls and roof. We explained the advantages of multi-foil solutions for air tightness and thermal bridging, specifically at the building’s junctions.

“We also covered thermal retention within the building during the winter months and the advantages during the summer with regard to heat transfer. The reflective films reflect around 94% of infrared radiation.

“It was a great idea to have a live build to show how the building was being constructed, and many customers mentioned that they were impressed by how the products had been installed.”

Collaboration is key for a high-performing insulation solution

In fact, the Actis installation process forms the latest chapter in the Scandia-Hus Ashurst build diary, which explains: “We’ve partnered with Actis for many years, and their systems continue to deliver outstanding results. The effectiveness, speed and ease of installation make Actis products ideal for our custom builds.

“The innovative heat-trapping honeycomb design of their Hybris insulation ensures every gap between the structural timbers is filled, reducing the risk of thermal bridging. In addition, the reflective vapour control layer (VCL) helps regulate internal temperatures, keeping the property warm in winter and cooler through increasingly hot summers.

“From a practical perspective, Actis panels are simple to cut accurately and straightforward to fit, slotting neatly into place. This not only minimises material wastage but can also reduce installation times by up to 30% compared to more traditional insulation methods.

“By combining thermal performance with airtightness, vapour permeability, moisture resistance, and reflective technology, the Actis system provides a comprehensive and high-performing insulation solution that perfectly aligns with our commitment to building energy-efficient, comfortable homes fit for the future.”

The Ashurst is insulated with 45mm honeycomb-structured Hybris in the ceiling, on the underside of the joists; 105mm Hybris on the external walls between 145mm studs; and a 45mm insulating vapour control layer, H Control Hybrid, on the external walls.
