Energy installers across the Republic of Ireland now have access to the thermostat that also acts as heat pump controls, being a major option for renewable energy solutions
Passiv UK is delivering the smart thermostat to the ROI in partnership with Midsummer Ireland.
The thermostat is advertised as being able to maximise heat pump performance, reduce running costs, and enhance home control.
Boosting efficiency in renewable systems
The Passiv Smart Thermostat features an ecoHeat function, verified by the Energy Saving Trust, which improves heat pump efficiency by 17%, and in turn, reduces household heating bills by up to 30%.
It also features a simple control scheme, and an app. Installation of the thermostat also benefits from the Passiv Portal, giving live system data.

Heat pumps: An emerging UK market
In February last year, data published by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) showed that the sales of heat pumps increased by 63% (hydronic heat pumps), while across 13 European countries, this average dropped by 23%.
The EHPA therefore stated that policies should shift to support this growth.
This growth defied the odds, as changes in government funding and support, the cost-of-living crisis, and low subsidised prices of gas caused around 4,000 jobs in the heat pump industry to be cut.
Paul Kenny, director general of the European Heat Pump Association, said: “The heat pump sector is down but far from out.
“Consumers want clean heat and comfortable homes, and they want to support European jobs and energy independence. As soon as they can see it’s possible thanks to supportive EU and national policies, and taxes which penalise fossil fuels not people, they show this by turning to heat pumps.
“We count on the EU Commission and governments to deliver in the coming months, starting by putting heat pumps front and centre of the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal, and supporting European clean tech leadership.”
