NFB Academy: Strengthening leadership, compliance and sustainability across construction

The National Federation of Builders has launched the NFB Academy, a comprehensive training and professional development hub designed to meet the real‑world needs of construction businesses across the UK

Developed and delivered by recognised industry experts, the NFB Academy provides practical, flexible programmes that help contractors stay compliant, develop their people, and build stronger, more capable teams.

James Butcher, deputy chief executive of the NFB, said: “Whilst there is plenty of training out there for the people on the ground in construction, our members told us they struggled to find courses centred around creating better leaders and managers.

“We’ve seen first-hand that when a business invests in its future leaders, the impact is felt across the entire organisation – improving culture, efficiency and profitability.”

Strengthen businesses of every size with tailored courses

Drawing on practical experience and up‑to‑date industry knowledge, the NFB Academy supports businesses of every size in developing confident leaders, improving productivity, strengthening compliance, and embedding a culture of sustainable growth.

Courses are delivered in person, online, at regional venues, or directly at customer premises, ensuring maximum accessibility for busy construction teams.

What courses does the NFB Academy run?

The NFB Academy’s current flagship courses are:

Leadership Diploma

A four‑part programme designed to develop confident, capable leaders and managers. Built for both new and aspiring managers, the diploma covers essential skills in people leadership, communication, team management, and employment law.

Delegates learn through classroom sessions, practical exercises and real‑world scenarios, with a blended assessment including knowledge checks, scenario tasks and a final professional discussion.

Building Safety Act Awareness

A clear, practical introduction to the Building Safety Act 2022 and its implications for construction businesses. The course helps delegates understand duty holder roles, the golden thread, safety cases, mandatory occurrence reporting, and how to demonstrate competence under the new regulatory regime. Delivered as a half‑day executive briefing or workshop.

Navigating Net Zero in Construction

An interactive workshop that explains what net zero means in practice, why it matters, and how businesses can begin measuring and reducing carbon emissions.

Delegates gain confidence in carbon management concepts, reporting requirements, and the early actions required to support a credible net-zero strategy.

In addition to the three existing courses, the NFB will launch new courses on Responsible AI use, Public Affairs in Construction, Neurodiversity in the Construction Workplace, and many more in the coming months and years.

Exclusive benefits for NFB members

Members of the NFB can also access free monthly CPD webinars, receive a CPD statement for their business at the end of the year (comprising event attendance, webinar and training participation) and use the NFB’s new learner management system when studying an NFB Academy programme.

Courses are open to members and non-members alike and businesses can register their interest and explore the full course catalogue here.
